Legend of the Mate
The Guaranis were a group of people who lived in South America before the arrival of the Europeans. These tribes worked on the land and became excellent craftsmen. They predicted the arrival of Tupan God, who brought religious knowledge and gave them certain agricultural practices to be used during difficulties. He showed the secrets of health and medicine and revealed the healing qualities of native plants, so the tribe showld clear part of the forest, plant cassava and corn, but after four or five years the soil would become sterile and the tribe should move on.
Tired of living in such a movement, an elder indian refused to continue and prefered to stay where he was. His younger daughter Yari, in spite of her boyfriend's entreaties, ended up being saddened reccived her father´s acusion.
One day, Yari and his father a visit from a traveler who spent the night in the cabin receiving his best deals. A young man sang for the visitor to fall asleep and to have a peaceful sleep, singing a soft and sad song.
At dawn, the traveler confessing to be sent from Tupã, wanted to repay them the hospitality saying that he would grant any wishes, even the most remote. The elder warrior, knowing that his daughter did not get married in order to no abandon him, newshed him that his forces were returned, so that Yari would become free.
The messenger from Tupan delivered to the leaves of Caá, teaching him to prepare an infusion that would give him back all the vigor. He also made Yari the Goddess of the herbs and protector of the Guarani race, being called Caá-Yari, Goddess of the yerba mate.
And so, this herb was transmitted from tribe to tribe, making its warriors stronger and more courageous.
How to prepare a good mate
Heat a kettle of water and let it in the fire until it sizzles, the ideal temperature for a mate is 70 ° to 80 ° degrees.
Put 2/4 (or even half of the cuia) of Cultyvada or Marsango yerba mate in the cuia. Put one of your hands on the cuff of the cuia, covering the hole, turn the cuia on its side almost upside down, causing the herb to be tilted at one side of the cuia, creating a volume of herb on top. You can use a small plate or a lid if you can not with the hand, and use the own pump to straighten the yerba.
Put some warm water and let the herb "swell". After 1 minute, place the pump, covering with your big finger, the thumb.
Ready! Enjoy your mate!
